While rosacea can include acne, it is broadly defined by symptoms of facial redness. Acne vulgaris on the other hand, is pretty much defined by the whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and zits that are caused by the overproduction of the sebum around hair follicles. Despite these differences, it is possible to use the same natural oils to help with acne and rosacea.
Olive Oil
While many people only associate it with cooking, olive oil nourishes and moisturizes the skin, and is often recommended as one of the natural oils to help with acne and rosacea. This is because olive oil can rejuvenate damaged or dry skin. The use of olive oil for acne may seem counterintuitive given that too much oil is a source of the problem, however an olive oil wash effectively removes dirt and dead skin and may help to dissolve the bad oil clogging your pores.
Lavender
Lavender is another excellent natural cleanser that is helpful with both acne and Rosacea. Like most natural oils used to help with acne and rosacea, the oil’s antiseptic and antifungal properties provide the primary benefit. However, lavender oil is also a terrific moisturizer and can reduce the inflammation that characterizes rosacea. Lavender is also frequently used in aromatherapy and, since stress has been shown to be a contribute to both acne and rosacea, the soothing smell of lavender makes it one of the best natural oils to help with acne and rosacea.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree oil kills bacteria and fungus, and is a powerful antiseptic that works well on the kinds of infections associated with acne. It has a powerful, but not unpleasant odor and a small amount can have a tremendous effect. It is important to dilute the tea tree oil before applying it, since the solution is quite strong and can sting. Another note is to avoid using it near the eyes. Tea tree oil is strong stuff, but its power as an antibacterial makes it a winning choice from the various natural oils to help with acne and rosacea.
A Mixture of Oils
While these natural oils are all helpful on their own, many prefer to mix the oils with one another when treating their suffering skin. An advantage of this approach is that many of the natural oils to help with acne and rosacea make powerful and pleasant smelling remedies in combination. A combination of lavender and tea tree oil is a commonly used remedy for acne and rosacea as the pleasant smelling and soothing lavender oil dilutes the powerful tea tree oil and helps to evenly distribute the powerful antiseptic.
While using these natural oils to help with acne and rosacea is mostly risk free, some people have been known to develop skin allergies to certain oils so take care. Remember that a lot of problems associated with skin can be cured by maintaining a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water; however, when a remedy must be considered these natural oils are a great alternative to harsher OTC products.
